Young Guns Week 5
Twitter @daveschefke9
Glad people like the new format, keep the feedback coming. Here's my Young Guns for Week 5:
TO THE BENCH
Torrey Smith- If you have better options, play them. He's not going to do much against Miami's defense.
T.Y. Hilton- I love him...but not against Seattle's defense
Trent Richardson- See above
DeAndre Hopkins- I love this kid, but he's up against the 49ers defense.
KEEP AN EYE ON
Bernard Pierce- If he gets the chance, he'll make the most of it.
Nick Foles- Vick is due for a 4-pick game or an injury. This kid is their future.
Jon Baldwin- 1st round bust with a change of scenery.
A.J. Jenkins- Ditto.
Michael Floyd- Top Tier talent with the size and speed to break out.
Kendall Hunter- I always liked this kid. If he gets the touches he WILL make a difference.
Travis Benjamin- One of my best kept secrets. See highlights from Thursday night's game.
Coby Fleener- He's a monster. Also, his chemistry with Luck goes back to college and has gotten better. Just stay healthy, big guy.
Bilal Powell- Right? I know.
THE REST
(*) YG Josh Gordon I called this on Twitter before the game. Josh Gordon looks like Julio Jones out there. After returning from his suspension, he has torched defenses while playing on a team with very few offensive weapons. He just gets better and better. Let's see if his attitude improves.
David Wilson- He has been horrible, an absolute non-Young Gun. Easily one of the most frustrating Fantasy Football players this year. All that doesn't change the fact that this kid has a ton of talent and is playing in the wrong system, under the wrong coach. I'm still waiting for him to break out, and he may against a terrible Eagles defense.
YG Alshon Jeffery- He's due for a touchdown or two, and it could happen this week. The Saints are hot. The Bears will be ready after losing a game they should have won against Detroit. Saints games have a habit of becoming shootouts, and both offenses are more than capable.
YG Giovani Bernard- Bernard is ready for a bounce back game and a TD against an NE defense that is solid outside of their linebacking. Cincy will be sure to get up for this game.
YG Tyler Eifert- He has definitely been solid this year, but I'm still waiting for that big game. They'll need him to beat New England.
(*) YG Justin Blackmon- If you don't know who this guy is, you're going to very soon. He is an elite talent if he can get his mind straight. His first game is against the Rams, which means I expect a TD in his return from suspension.
(*) YG Tavon Austin- Why is he starred this week? Because he is playing against the Jags. He is as explosive as just about anyone and should exploit this weak defense for a nice game.
Other noteworthy Rams (semi?) Young Guns to watch against a terrible Jags team- Brian Quick, Chris Givens
YG Ryan Tannehill and YG Lamar Miller- I think Miami is going to win this game, and both of these guys should have strong bounce back games after their first loss of the season last week.
YG Johnathan Franklin- Like Tigger, I may be the only one, but I STILL like him more than Eddie Lacy. If they play him, he's going to wreak havoc against the Lions. Randall Cobb could also have a big day against a weak Lions' secondary. Expect a TD. I would say 2, but Rodgers loves to spread the ball around, especially now that he has a running game.
YG Justin Hunter- This kid is good. Really good. His first 2 catches in the NFL have been monstrous TDs, and he had Jake Locker throwing to him. That makes it even more impressive. Locker being out shouldn't change much. I expect a good game from him as he continues to build trust from his coaches.
SEAHAWKS/COLTS
This is by far the best game of the week. I can't see how anyone could argue otherwise. Last week, I had Luck starred. Not this week. I'm not saying he can't steal the game for Indy, he is capable of that. But I am not as high on him or T.Y. Hilton this week against the best defense in the world. I can't wait to watch this game.
(*) Cam Newton- He's starred this week because he's playing Arizona, who has an elite run defense. Newton will have to throw, and throw he will for over 300 yards. Not sure if he can win the game, but either way he's a Top 3 Young Gun for me this week.

I disagree with benching Torrey Smith...he's easily Baltimore's best receiver, and Miami's defense has been good against the run, not the pass. If Cameron Wake plays, the pass rush will be much improved and will make Flacco's day more difficult, but I still see Torrey going at least 5 rec, 100 yds, 1 TD.
ReplyDeleteAlso, Josh Gordon retroactively being starred as a week 5 Young Gun.....pretty easy to predict after the game is already over!
I called Josh Gordon on Twitter well before the game good sir ;)
DeleteGood point about Torrey Smith. This was more of a pointer for someone blessed with an exceptional WR core
