Wow, last week was trap-ridden. I got my upset, but lost my lock. Tony Romo outplayed Peyton Manning of all people, and the Cowboys lost. The Browns have won 3 in a row. I don’t think that’s happened since the Ravens were the Browns. Anyway, I’m 49-28 this year, so I’m not too upset about last week’s trappings. Let’s roll through these matchups.
Thursday Night Games
Giants @ Da Bears – DA BEARS: Oh wow, did I get this one. I’m so happy the Giants are failing, almost as much as I am enjoying the Steelers failing. But we’ll get to them later. Let’s just say it all together now (Dylan): The Giants will NOT make a playoff run.
Sunday Early Afternoon Games
Raiders @ Chiefs – CHIEFS: This is actually turning out to be a great divisional set-up for the AFC West. I would bet that the 2 matchups between the Chiefs and the Broncos will be THE difference in the divisional standings.
Eagles @ Buccaneers – EAGLES: The Bucs just decided to mail in the rest of their season. This will be a close matchup for a while seeing as how the Bucs defense is fairly good, but look for the Eagles to pull away late.
Packers @ Ravens – RAVENS: Just so everyone knows, I refuse to buy in to the Ravens performing well in this game because I keep getting sucked into their attempts at adequacy. However, this is the only matchup of the week that I think could be an upset that is a proper point spread, so I give this matchup the most unenthusiastic UPSET I can possibly give.
Lions @ Browns – BROWNS: I cannot believe it, but I am picking the Browns to pull through a 4th playoff pick.
Panthers @ Vikings – VIKINGS: I have no jokes for this entry. There was a very somber event that happened this week. The death of a child, especially in the instance of a volitional choice, is a horrific event. I think I can safely speak for everyone here at The Dogpile that our thoughts and prayers are with Adrian Peterson and his family. I honestly believe that the Vikings will rally around AP and pull out this win.
Rams @ Texans – TEXANS: Ugh… who honestly looks worse? Matt Schaub is doing a better Eli impression than Eli, and the Rams made the woefully horrific Jags look almost half-decent. I can’t even care about this matchup because both teams have let me down so many times in a row. Gasp and horror, Dylan may have been right about THIS much this year.
Steelers @ Jets – STEELERS: I absolutely refuse to believe in the Jets. I don’t care what they’ve done. I don’t care how clutch Geno Smith has appeared down the stretch. I don’t care that the Steelers are 0-4. The Steelers coming off their Bye week, so there is that. Also, clearly Mike Tomlin has fixed the problems. Clearly ping-pong is the reason the Steelers are failing, not an aging everything-on-the-team. As much as I despise both teams, I’m not about to lose a point on either one. The Jets have been the bane of my picking this year, so I’m WASHing this stupid game out.
Bengals @ Bills – BENGALS: I would have totally picked this as my upset if EJ Manuel hadn’t gotten himself injured… again. Bengals will get a nice tune up matchup before heading to Detroit.
Sunday Late Afternoon Games
Titans @ Seahawks – SEAHAWKS: It looks like the Seahawks are going to cruise to an 8-0 home record again this year. This game shouldn’t be close seeing as Ryan Fitzpatrick has shown that he will be maddeningly ineffective no matter what uniform he wears.
Jaguars @ Broncos – BRONCOS: Look, there are a lot of good locks this week, but this game is my LOCK. I mean, it is cut-and-dry, no questions, hands-down guaranteed. The Broncos will win, and Peyton shouldn’t need to play the 2nd half.
Cardinals @ 49ers – 49ERS: Nothing really to say here. The Cardinals have been very competitive this year, so when this matchup hits Arizona, it may be a different outcome.
Saints @ Patriots – SAINTS: *sigh* Seriously? 0.5 points away? I want this to be my upset, but seeing as how the lines never change ever, I’m stuck with my stupid other pick. Saints go 6-0; Pats drop to 4-2. This actually will not be close.
Sunday Night Game
Redskins @ Cowboys – COWBOYS: I was 3 points away from hitting two nails on their respective heads last week. This week, the Cowboys face a lesser defense AND a lesser offense. Primetime does tend to bring the best out of the Boys.
Monday Night Game
Colts @ Chargers – COLTS: Why would I pick the Chargers? Who honestly believes they have a chance? What, just because it’s in San Diego? Yeah, ok. No nail-biter here.
