Sleep Comes Too Early for Saints Fans
By Dave Schefke
Drew Brees. His name elicits so many good things. NyQuil commercials with his adorable family. Pepsi commercials where he throws a football at a girl from the band One Direction. More importantly, he's the leader of the Saints, that beloved football team from New Orleans, one of the greatest football strongholds in America. He's an awesome guy...it's pretty much impossible to dislike him. He's even written a book that sells at your local Christian bookstore that includes faith, family, and some hilarious stories from college. With that said, I hung my head in shame last night as I watched the Saints' playoff hopes vanish in a game where Brees looked more like, well, not Drew Brees.
5 picks. Five.
As in how many Matt Ryan threw a couple weeks ago. What may have been even worse was throwing a pass in the middle of the field well short of the endzone with no timeouts remaining in the half, to forfeit three of the easiest and most important points the Saints needed all year.
54 straight games throwing a TD - Drew's record comes to an end in this fitting disaster of a game against the NFL's MOST OVERRATED TEAM. The Falcons may be the worst 11-1 team in football history, but we'll talk about that in later articles.
Even the most loyal, die-hard, and biased of Saints fans know the truth...dreams of a playoff birth are done. New Orleans arguably needed last week's game against the 49ers to make the playoffs (of course not mathematically, but psychologically). Obviously, this game was a must win in order to vault them into contention to run the tables in the four weeks to come. After the last two games, the Saints not only need epic failure from other teams, but simply don't have what it takes to sweep through the Giants, Bucs, Cowboys, and Panthers (the first two of course being most problematic)
Take some Quil, Drew, and sleep well, sweet prince.
This was fantastic.
ReplyDeleteNice article, Dave! I enjoyed the read. Drew will have plenty of time to make more great commercials this January.
