1) SEATTLE SEAHAWKS (9-1): Change: +1 [1,3] I WAS SO WRONG TO MOVE YOU OUT OF THE TOP SPOT, SEAHAWKS! I WAS SO WRONG! Seattle is playing on a different plane than most teams, and showed it with a resounding win in week 10.
2) NEW ENGLAND
PATRIOTS (7-2): Change: +1 [2,8] The Pats move up on their bye due solely to the Colts' ineptitude.
3) NEW ORLEANS SAINTS (6-2): Change: +2 [3,6] When you rout a quality opponent, you'll rise quickly in these rankings. The Cowboys didn't have a chance on SNF.
4) INDIANAPOLIS COLTS (6-2): Change: -3 [1,14] I'm being merciful to the Colts in leaving them this high. True Super Bowl contenders don't get routed by bottom-feeding teams like that. I'll keep them ahead of the Broncos for now as they did beat them earlier this year.
5)
DENVER BRONCOS (8-1):
Change: -1 [1,5] The Broncos just didn't impress me against the Chargers. After a fast start, this team has looked incredibly shaky. BIG showdown with the Chiefs for division supremacy this week.
6) CAROLINA PANTHERS (6-3): Change: +5 [6,14] I was waiting for the Panthers to beat a quality opponent to shoot up in these rankings, and they did it in impressive fashion against the 49ers on Sunday, on the road, no less! This defense is the best unit in the league, and the NFC had better watch out for Carolina moving forward.
7) SAN FRANCSICO 49ERS (6-3): Change: -1 [2,7] You've got to take care of business at home, especially against a team that will be vying for a wildcard spot against you. The loss to the Panthers was more like two losses for the 9ers, as they aren't winning the West and I doubt the Panthers will take the South.
8) KANSAS CITY CHIEFS (9-0): Change: 0 [8,22] I've said it before, and I'll say it again, I don't think the Chiefs will beat any of the teams above them on this list. We'll see if that changes when they face Denver on SNF.
9) DETROIT LIONS (6-3): Change: +1 [9,13] Another week, another impressive Lions victory. Megatron is having an MVP season, and is now the frontrunner to take the NFC North with the Packers and Bears both missing their starting QBs.
10) CHICAGO BEARS (5-4): Change: +2 [8,12] They were very competitive against the Lions, and are still better than the teams below them. McCown has shown that he can get this team to play, so maybe the Bears can stay in the hunt in Cutler's absence.
11) CINCINNATI BENGALS (6-4): Change: -2 [7,11] ANOTHER letdown for the Bengals. It has to be utterly demoralizing to go from tying the game and forcing OT on that Hail Mary pass to AJ Green to losing the game in that overtime. The Bengals need to fix their team, and fast.
12) GREEN BAY PACKERS (5-4): Change: -5 [2,12] I wanted to wait a week before dropping to Packers to see how they would do without Rodgers....it's worse than I thought. They need him to have a speedy recovery.
13) ARIZONA CARDINALS (5-4): Change: +1 [13,24] They just keep finding ways to win.
14) DALLAS COWBOYS (5-5): Change: -1 [12,18] It was a tough week for the 'Boys, but there's still no shame in losing to a team like the Saints. No one is saying Dallas is a Super Bowl contender, but they're still the most talented team in the NFC East.
15) NEW YORK JETS (5-4): Change: 0 [13,30] The Jets stand pat during their bye, and are about as average of a team as there is in the league right now.
16) CLEVELAND BROWNS (4-5): Change: 0 [16,27] The Browns are poised to make a playoff run, and will be hitting the field in week 10 rested from their bye.
17) SAN DIEGO CHARGERS (4-5): Change: 0 [16,25] They had a good showing against the Broncos, and look to be a factor in the AFC wildcard race moving forward.
18) PHILADELPHIA EAGLES (5-5): Change: +6 [17,22] The Eagles impressed me in their win over the Packers. Maybe they can make a run at the division....
19) NEW YORK GIANTS (3-6): Change: +4 [12,26] After an 0-6 start, the Giants are a game and a half out of first place. They've quietly strung together three wins and have a big game next week against the Packers that will tell us a lot about where they stand.
20) BALTIMORE RAVENS (4-5): Change: 0 [14,20] The Ravens get back on track with an upset win over the division leaders.
21) ST. LOUIS RAMS (4-6): Change: +6 [14,29] When you beat my #1 team, you're going to make a substantial move in these rankings.
22) HOUSTON TEXANS (2-7):
Change: +4 [6,29] It's weird to move them up after a loss, but Case Keenum has brought some much-needed energy to this team and I see them winning several games before this season is over.
23) TENNESSEE TITANS (4-5): Change: -5 [18,30] You lost to the Jags?! REALLY?!
24) PITTSBURGH STEELERS (3-6): Change: +4 [21,26] Solid win for the Steelers against a surprisingly competitive Buffalo team.
25) BUFFALO BILLS (3-5): Change: 0 [25,29] This team just can't finish a game. They have a lot of pieces, and I'm interested to see what next year holds.
26) WASHINGTON REDSKINS (3-5): Change: -5 [17,26] That was a pathetic showing on TNF.
27) OAKLAND RAIDERS (3-5): Change: +1 [24,32] Sure, I'll move them out of the bottom 5.
28) ATLANTA FALCONS (2-7): Change: -6 [8,28] They didn't even try against Seattle.
29) MINNESOTA VIKINGS (2-7): Change: +1 [23, 30] Nice win on TNF. AP looks superhuman out there.
30) TAMPA BAY BUCS (1-8): Change: +1 [19,31] They got their first win and showed some spark.
31) MIAMI DOLPHINS (4-5): Change: -12 [19,31] This scandal is crippling this team. Not only is it a ton of negative media attention, but 40% of their starting o-line is gone.
32) JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS (1-8): Change: 0 [31,32] They won, but tried really hard to give it away at the end. I can't move them out of the cellar this week, and it will take a lot for them to rise to #31 before the end of the year.
