Tex's Week 17 Picks

Oh man, this year has been up and down like no other. This week has very few matchups that matter, and the one that matters the most to me is THE game of the week. It has the potential of being game of the year. This year has had a few surprises and a few predictable outcomes, but this last week, WHOO baby, this is it.

Buccaneers @ Falcons: FALCONS - If the Bucs were still in the playoff hunt, I'd give them the nod because the Falcons aren't playing for anything. As it is, since neither team is playing for anything, I'm lookin at the Falcons to play well enough to kick a Bucs team that's already down on themselves for letting another year slip away.

Jets @ Bills: BILLS - I have so many expletives for Rex that even HE would blush. How about you give Tebow a chance in a meaningless game. No? What, are you afraid you might win something? Oh, you're playing Sanchez again. Of COURSE you're afraid of winning. Why else would you play him?

Ravens @ Bengals: BENGALS - I am actually a little surprised that the Bengals are favored. Neither team is playing for anything; they've both clinched whatever. I wouldn't be surprised if they both did some heavy resting. I'll take the Bengals at home, though. They look like the hotter team. Meh, I'll WASH this one out.

Bears @ Lions: DA BEARS - Both teams will end up with a very disappointing season, however, Da Bears are the better team, and they also technically can still make the playoffs. Since it's a 1 PM game, they won't know they're eliminated until later. They'll fight hard to keep hope alive.

Jaguars @ Titans: TITANS - It is really hard to pick a team that allowed 55 points with 7 TDs, 4 of which were running. However, you cannot neglect the fact that the Titans are, in fact, playing the Jags. The Jags have another opportunity to waste a high first round draft pick. They won't screw that up by winning...

Texans @ Colts: TEXANS - This game means nothing outside of bragging rights, so both will rest their starters. The Colts will play well, and they might even be able to beat the Texans when it matters, but for now, I gotta go with the better overall team.

Panthers @ Saints: SAINTS - Those trolling Saints... tch tch tch. Oh well, they'll go out and have some fun on their last game without Sean Payton on the sidelines.

Eagles @ Giants: GIANTS - In what will ultimately be a fruitless effort, the Giants will fight hard hoping the Redskins and Cowboys tie so that they can squeak in and steal the division. Hey Dylan, what about that stride the G-men were supposed to be hitting?

Browns @ Steelers: STEELERS - Look, I want to pick the Browns, I really do. They, however, have no motivation. They know their GM and coach are gone. From where is the desire going to come? I hate Pittsburgh, but I'll have to pick this garbage-filled team.

Chiefs @ Broncos: BRONCOS - Even with starters being rested, I'll LOCK in Peyton Manning as the white knight of Denver. He may even snag a bye week with a win here.

Packers @ Vikings: VIKINGS - I'll actually take the Vikes as my UPSET pick. I think AP will play valiantly, but he will come up short of breaking the record. Either way, the Vikings need to win to still hope for the playoffs.

Dolphins @ Patriots: PATRIOTS - I bet the Dolphins will cover, but the Patriots are still fighting for a bye week, so there's that. A wekk off is always nice.

Raiders @ Chargers: CHARGERS -  My goodness gracious, if this isn't the biggest "Who else but the players' mothers give a crap about this game?" game of the week, I don't know what is. I pick the Chargers only because they're at home, and that Norv wants to troll a little more.

Cardinals @ 49ers: 49ERS - Holy crap. If you told me a few weeks ago that the 9ers wouldn't have the division locked up by now, I'd say you were stupid. If they lose out of the division, it serves them right for benching Alex Smith for an injury.

Rams @ Seahawks: SEAHAWKS - Holy crap. I didn't believe in this team, and look what it's gotten me. I'm not doubting them at home. I'm not dumb.

Cowboys @ Redskins: Roller coaster year after roller coaster year, being a Cowboys isn't easy. History tells me that Romo can't end a season closer or a 1-and-done or a win-or-go-home game. History tells me that the Cowboys are always overrated and never do well when it counts. History tells me that a hot-handed rookie QB doesn't understand enough yet to feel pressure. History is important to help us learn and not repeat mistakes, yet as a Cowboys fan, I have seen the same mistakes every year; I have committed the same mistakes every year. I have had false hope more times than I've had a beer. Ask Dylan, and he'll let you know that it is unfathomable that I have more of anything than beer other than air. Yet here I stand, a Cowboys fan who is trying to contemplate upon history. This is difficult for me. I am a Cowboys fan and always will be, but history tells me the other way. Therfore, I have but one choice.......

HOW BOUT THOSE DADGUM, ROOTIN, TOOTIN, GOD-LOVIN, GOD-FEARIN, FALSE-HOPE-GIVIN, SONS-OF-GUNS COWBOYS!!!!
Come on, you KNOW I can't abandon my team now. You KNOW I gotta go with them. Romo is bucking the trend this year, and I am happy to watch it. This season is not a championship year, but a division win will tell us we're on the right track. I gotta rise with the Cowboys, and I gotta go down in flames with them, but DAMMIT, GO COWBOYS!!!!
