I did not get as
many picks as I would have liked last week, so I'm going to have to
refocus here. This Week 14 is crucial to the playoff hopes of several
teams, and it is crucial to my ability to get a good groove in my picks.
I went 9-7 last week - not horrible, but I missed a crucial upset pick. I
am 121-71-1 this year, which is by far better than I did last year.
Better, however, isn't good enough. I need to channel my inner Ralph
Macchio and "be the best... around [so that] no one's ever gonna take me
down..."
TNF: Broncos @ Raiders: BRONCOS - By the way, check out my article on why I hate TNF. Especially since I love watching Peyton and can't due to NFLN, this article is applicable. You know what else is applicable? My lock pick.
Sunday:
Ravens @ Redskins: RAVENS - Understandably, Vegas is overreacting to the Redskins win over the Giants as well as the Ravens loss to ::snicker, snicker:: the Carlie Batch led Steelers. ::busts out laughing:: Ahem, excuse me. Back to professionalism. One thing is important to note: the Ravens don't lose back-to-back games. I don't know HOW, but the Ravens will put together a good game for a close win.
Chiefs @ Browns: BROWNS - Give credit where credit is due: both teams overcame team losses last week and won. However, even if it was this week, it was both teams to suffer. Therefore, I have to go with the hot hand at home. The Chiefs have my respect, and, in my eyes, a win like last week is worth 3 wins in my book. However, I don't think they can overcome the Browns in Cleveland.
Chargers @ Steelers: STEELERS - Good gravy, Ben might be back, but even so, if the Ravens can't beat the Steelers, what false hope have the Chargers been working on all week to think they can win?
Titans @ Colts: COLTS - Dude, Andrew Luck has found beast mode. I shouldn't have doubted him last week. It's my own fault. Colts in a stomping of the Titans.
Jets @ Jaguars: JAGUARS - For my wash out pick, I'll throw Dylan's team a bone. Also, I hate the Jets. There is no reason behind except for this: Rex benched Sanchez in the ONE FREAKING GAME where Tebow was injured. I mean, long-term, sure, give the rookie a chance to show what he's got, but short-term? Your season is gone, so throw in the ticket-seller. Also, Tim Tebow can't progress in his game if he NEVER TOUCHES THE FIELD!!!!
Bears @ Vikings: DA BEARS(?) - I'm picking the Da Bears only because it seems like the Vikings have no one on their team other than AP. Oh, funniest quote I saw all week? "Seeing how AP has bounced back, as a [Da] Bears fan, should I be rooting for Matt Forte to tear his ACL?" The response "I think yes, but we don't know yet if AP is an alien life-form that grows back stronger with what doesn't kill him." Was he saying that AP is a Saiyan? Does that mean his 200+ yard games, his hair is actually going blonde and spikey? Ok, enough of the trip down nerd-memory lane.
Falcons @ Panthers: ::ugh:: falcons - Notice I did NOT put that in all caps. That's because I'm tired of the Falcons sense of accomplishment by beating a 5-7 team, regardless of how impressive their defense looked. I'm tired of the Falcons expecting respect without winning a playoff game. I'm tired of the fact that the world is more willing to love Matt Ryan, but hate Tony Romo. I'm tired of the double-standard the world has for the Cowboys. When the Cowboys were 11-1, people gave them less respect than when they finished 6-10 2 years ago. The Falcons are 11-1 with the easiest freakin schedule in the world, and the Falcons expect people to drop on their knees and cry out "Hosana!" Well screw that. I WILL NOT KNEEL!!!!
Eagles @ Buccaneers: BUCS - Eagles suck. Hey, you know what would be a better betting line? Which Eagles coach gets fired this week? I choose... the secondary coach.
Rams @ Bills: BILLS - Tempting as it is to pick the upset, I've got that up my sleeve for later. I believe in both teams, and I bet Fisher will have a divisional title within 2 more seasons.
Cowboys @ Bengals: Oh, come on, you know where I'm going with this one ::Ahem:: HOW BOUT DEM COWBOYS? - This is TOTALLY my upset pick. If for no other reason it's this: the Bengals are the morsel snatchers that fall off the Cowboys' plate. Over the years, the Bengals have picked up like 20 former Cowboys. Among them are Pacman Jones, Terence Newman, TO, and Roy Williams the safety. The Bengals have looked good, but not this week.
Dolphins @ 49ers: 49ERS - My 9ers were getting back at me last week. I just KNOW it. I'll stay with them to show my loyalty.
Saints @ Giants: WHO DAT?! - The Saints have had a long week and have mostly looked good lately. The Giants had a short week and have looked mostly terrible lately. I think that is the perfect storm to make the NFC East look interesting again.
Cardinals @ Seahawks: SEAHAWKS - The only question in this pick is this: Since the Seahawks actually WON an away game, are they going to even that out by sucking at home? The answer, of course, is no.
Lions @ Packers: PACKERS - Look, the Lions could TOTALLY win this game, but I don't think they'll recover from last week's debacle. The Pack has looked fairly finely tuned, but we'll have to see how this plays out.
Texans @ Patriots: PATRIOTS - As much as I would LOVE for the Texans to win, let's look at the facts: the Patriots have a stupendous record at home, and they are on a 20+ game winning streak in the 2nd half of the season. This could be a preview of the AFC Championship, except it would be in Houston in the big game.
